Aluminum Carbonate-basic (Al2(CO3)3) is the aluminum salt form of carbonic acid, an antacid with phosphate binding activity. Upon oral administration of aluminum carbonate, aluminum is able to bind to phosphate in the intestines, including the radionuclide phosphate P-32, thereby preventing phosphate uptake.
